unnamed-9Once again we were honored to be asked to be one of the featured “emerging artist” in the “French Kiss” Birdcage event for Lord & Taylor in NYC! This time the order was twice the size as it was back in the spring.  The theme for the Fall event was “French Kiss” we were asked to create a “French Flag” red, white and blue soap to be scented with Pure Lavender essential oils.

img_0928In addition to that they ordered and equal amount of Lavender Vanilla box sets.  This was quite a tall order for our small but mighty soap shop in Cumming Ga, but we did it! Not only did we have to quickly figure out how to make a three color vertical straight lined french flag soap, but we also had to design “french” inspired packaging for both the flag soap and Lavender Vanilla.

This required a white gloss box with a re-designed label (thank you Shanda!) that had an elegant french flair to it that would be perfect for the “french Kiss” inspired theme. We worked night and day, as the deadline to ship approached! Many nights we worked until midnight or later pushing to get everything done in time! unnamed-2Marie & I have to give a huge shout out to our favorite employee Delane Andrews! :) She worked tirelessly to help us make this deadline! Bella Canale (Marie’s daughter) also help us pack and load boxes a couple of nights also!

Much designing help from Shanda McCloskey (my daughter), and enormous technical help from my son in law Ben McCloskey. And last but not least my sweet hubby Larry custom made us the dividers needed to pour the different sections of the flag soap.

img_0975We had many tweaks to the soap mold, and dividers to achieve a beautiful bar we were super proud of! With every problem, (and we had quite a few at first) Larry helped us readjust until we got the results we needed from the mold!  Even my sweet granddaughters helped out too, Beni (pitcured) was “so over” shipping boxes :) Ha-ha is she cute or what? :)  img_1003So,….finally the ship day arrived and we were packed and ready to roll by the skin of our teeth, but we did make the deadline! All I can say is when the heat is on our team can make it happen and I was so proud of what we accomplished in this project!

Much Love, Dianne

NYC Skyline

Flying high over NYC:)

Dianne and I have finally had a chance to come down from our high of going to NYC and our jammed packed 4 days in one of the greatest cities in the world. Saying that it was a place like no other would be a huge understatement to say the least. Several times while we were there, the story of The Country Mouse & The City Mouse kept popping in to my head:) {Y’all can only guess which ones we were:)}

Our primary reason for heading to New York was to participate in the Free Spirit Rose launch event for Lord & Taylor that we were honored to be a part of – right on 5th Avenue at their flagship store in the heart of Manhattan.

Even from the outside, we could feel that this was going to be an experience like no other.  The store front windows were gorgeous and their exquisite details of the free spirit rose were amazing.

These pictures of the store front windows were beautiful and only made our imaginations wonder even more and anticipate what was waiting for us inside:

Free Spirit RoseThe Free Spirit Rose is certainly not a rose that you would soon forget.  It’s colors are stunning and each more beautiful than that next. Lord & Taylor was literally trimmed from head to toe with the Free Spirit Rose. From the runners on the floors, to the wrapped columns… from the pink champagne with floating rose petals that were plentiful, to the fresh bouquets of roses that were passed out to attendees… they thought of EVERYTHING!!

The flattering compliments made about NuMe were humbling and very appreciated:)  Our Lavender Rose box sets were in perfect sync with so many other rose themed products that helped complete the Free Spirit Rose collection.  There were rose scented candles, serving pieces with roses, art pieces, hand-made paper goods with roses, clothing with roses; the list goes on and on:)

Empire State Building

The Empire State Building at night:)

Before we knew it, the event wrapped up and we took to the streets again.  From the perspective of this Country Mouse, I just knew I couldn’t make it all the way to NYC without seeing the Empire State Building.  (Yes Mom, I went there. And No, we didn’t go all the way up…. we needed to experience some New York pizza – and a girl’s gotta eat…)  Needless to say, the Empire State Building is even prettier at night.

We needed to see and do and experience as much as we could during our stay, packing in venues like Pou in China Town, Little Italy, Blue Bottle Coffee, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Berg’n Coffee Shop in Brooklyn, to die for Korean burritos at Domo Taco, riding the Staten Island Ferry, seeing the statue of Liberty, catching a play on Broadway (She Loves Me) and of course Times Square at night:) Our list goes on and on, but if I kept uploading the pictures, my computer is sure to crash…….:):)

Michael & India

Michael & India while stopping in India’s Floral Studio in Brooklyn:)

Our trip to NY was made even sweeter because of the Georgia raised tour guide that happens to be a Brooklyn resident.  Dianne’s daughter India, and her husband Michael, were gracious enough to let us crash at their place during our stay.

For me, having folks living in the city to show us around made my first-time NY experience so much more amazing.  They knew exactly where to go for the best Pho, the BEST Bubble Tea and as for the subway…… you can forget it.  I would have ended up in some suburb of Cleveland the way I was going.  Walking down the street where they live is like walking down Sesame Street:)

We can’t thank them enough for opening their home to us, and a special thanks to Michael too for putting up with listening to us hens jib-jabbing into the wee hours of the morning:):)

Although we had a terrific time, leaving was definitely bitter-sweet for Dianne. She was soaking up every drop of India that she could and couldn’t resist getting enough hugs stored up with her to take back to GA.

Buzzing around the city, a quick plane ride and we’re back in the South – ready to jump in to the soap shop again and keep the good smells com’in:):)

Love y’all,

Marie & Dianne

IMG_8701Marie & I are packing our bags and about to board a flight to NYC! Why you ask?? Well it’s a very good question.

A while back you may remember we told you that we were in the mist of a big project with details soon to follow!  We apologize for the delay in follow up, but here’s what we have been pulling together since January!  We were contacted by Lord & Taylor from NYC late December 2015.  We were asked if we would be interested in having our Lavender Rose Soap & Body Butter Box Set featured by them in the Spring Collection called Birdcage.  newBirdcage is a collection of goods from hand picked emerging business and artisans from all over the country!  We were excited to be officially named one of the vendors for the 2016 Spring Birdcage collection. The theme is “Spirit of the Rose”.  Much to our surprise we were also invited to attend the Spring Launch event of Birdcage in NYC this week!IMG_8699

We are for sale in the Birdcage section of the flagship Manhattan Lord & Taylor store, as well as the Westchester and Palisades New York locations.  You can also find us at select Lord & Taylor Stores in New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. We are sold on line also!

I can not tell this story without a huge thank you to Delane Andrews, she is a gem of a team member!  Delane was a huge force in helping us meet production for this project! And last but certainly not least my sweet son-in-law Ben McCloskey!  Ben is our web expert, and let me tell you it is no small technical task for a small company like ours to interface with a huge company like Lord & Taylor.

There were many unfamiliar systems, rules and regulations that had to be deciphered and followed to the letter, from being set up to receive their orders, from many steps in between to the final ship date and paperwork after the shipment.  Ben’s help on this on going learning project has been immeasurable, and we simply can not thank him enough! :)

Another huge reason I can’t wait to go is we get to visit with my daughter India and her husband Michael while we are there! :) So it’s a win win! :)

Stay tuned, we’ll be posting photos as we travel and take in the city!

much love,

Dianne & Marie
